In my recent book, Colu Cooks: Easy Fancy Food, I share an essay on how I enjoy cooking on vacation and suggestions on how to do so and what to bring with some whimsy thrown in there.
But, as we settle (there is an insane amount of work to do) into our new home, I began thinking about the elemental ways to setting up a functional kitchen and it doesn’t take much. It was actually very similar to what I would bring with me when “cooking on vacation.” A few pots, pans and tools are truly all you need to make beautiful and elegant meals - regardless if you’re renting a villa in Tuscany with friends or renovating an 1866 farmhouse in rural Canada (!) or not. I thought it would be helpful to share with you as well and perhaps it will encourage you to finally get rid of that ridiculous, whatever-it-is gadget and streamline your cupboards. In short, less is more.
Our Nova Scotia kitchen as of now. We had to buy the house with everything in it. To be continued with lots of fun updates! She’s got a lot of potential.
