On Mother's Day

Dear ones,

It feels flippant for me to send out a recipe today under the pretense that everything is hunky dory. Today is a challenging day for me. Today is a challenging day for many.

 I wrote something a few years ago that feels safe to share here. 

"If you are a woman you are a mother. Child by choice, no child by choice, no child and not by choice, loss. We are born nurturers to friends, to pets, to other women, to men, to partners, to other people’s children, to anyone who needs mothering. Today can be messy and complicated and painful and hard to get through. I am sending love to those who are struggling and love to those who aren't. I salute us all.”

Deepest thanks to the women in my life who have mothered me in ways that you can’t even imagine. This email is dedicated to you.
